Public Education:

The Kalamazoo Flotilla conducts regularly scheduled Boating Skills and Seamanship classes for the Kalamazoo and Battle Creek areas. Classes are held at area high schools. The classes usually meet one evening a week beginning at 7:00 P.M. Please consult the current schedule for the exact times and places.

Flotilla 18-08 often offers an Advanced Coastal Navigation Course, usually in the fall term. Please consult the current schedule for exact times and places.

The Flotilla also offers the Michigan DNR Boating Safety Course, Auxiliary Boating Safely Course. Please consult the current schedule for the exact times and places.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary has an excellent Instructor's Qualification Program that trains the members to teach and help educate the boating public. The Coast Guard feels that good boating education is "preventative Search and Rescue," in other words, educating the boating public to raise their awareness to avoid and prevent emergencies on the water.

See the Descriptions of the Auxiliary Public Education Classes from the Coast Guard Auxiliary National Web Site.
